Why Not Buy a Why-Pass

About a week ago I bought my very first Why-pass. Now, I know what some of you might be thinking. Who in their right mind would spend $20 on a website? From the people I know, I think out of the one million people that have registered on Whyville, only about 15% of them have a Why-pass. That doesn't seem like much -- and it should be more.

Here are a few reasons that helped me decide to buy a Why-pass.

1. Buying a Why-pass sends $20 to the makers of Whyville. That money is used to buy new servers (computers) so that we -- yes, we -- have more memory and tools to build new things in Whyville. I think it also helps City Workers increase our protection from viruses and other things, keeping Whyville safe from common glitches and Internet attacks.

2. There are many perks for Why-pass holders! For starters, don't you just hate to go on Whyville on one day, pick a perfectly good new face, and then go on the next day and... what?! You look like a newbie, like when you first started out! That's probably because your parts expired. But once you buy a lifetime Why-pass, your parts will never, ever expire as long as you own them! How great is that?

3. Have you ever tried to log into Whyville when all of a sudden that nasty Whyville Lounge pops up on you because Whyville is too busy? Well, never mind that. When you buy a Why-pass, you never have to worry about catching a nap in the Whyville Lounge again.

4. And then there's the Face Factory. Don't you hate how you can only get in on just one day, once a month? Sometimes you even forget to check if you can get in, and that was the day, so you're stuck waiting another month. Think about this: one day a month, 12 months a year means you can only make 12 parts a year. That makes it tough to get the experience to become a good designer. But never fear! Super Why-pass is here to save the day again. If you buy a Why-pass, you can get into the Face Factory pretty much as many times you want every day. That means you can make 12 parts in less than an hour if you really wanted to. Why wait a year to make 12 parts?

5. The latest perk is that super Why-pass holders can get into busy chat rooms more easily. If you want to get to the front of the line (like those super passes at Six Flags and other amusement parks), then buy a Why-pass today. I know you get annoyed when you try to get into places with clam showers, Media Hour, Trivia Hour, the Meet-the-Makers events, and even Senatorial meetings, debates, and those oh-so-trendy inaugurations. It's much easier with a Pass.

Remember, if you want a better Whyville, go buy a Why-pass today!

Now, some folks don't fully understand how the latest perk (#5) works. One person wrote a story for the Times declaring that "it works by kicking out non-Why-pass holders." This is NOT TRUE!

Why-Pass holders NEVER kick someone out, whether it's a chatroom, the Face Factory or Whyville itself.

It's easy to be confused, I admit. What actually happens is, if a chatroom is so crowded that the people who are just coming in have to be limited by the system (like during Meet-the-Makers and other important events), Why-Pass holders just have a better chance of getting in. It's kind of like they know how to get in the back door -- and of course sometimes it's too crowded even for that.
