This past week, Whyvillians selected our community's latest senator! More than
14,000 votes were counted, making this one of our largest elections ever. Way
to get the vote out!
The winner in an incredibly tight race is... PUNKnPIE!
Voting was hosted on the Welcome Page for a long week, in which more than 60,000
votes were cast -- oops, you can only vote once! The City Workers will add instructions
that make this clear for the next Senate Race.
As for this election, the votes came out like this:
- PUNKnPIE - 5,329
- babygrace - 4,799
- biddygurl - 4,177
In her platform, PUNKnPIE emphasized higher quality tools in Akbar's Face Factory
and the Mall, which she said would lead to better face parts for everyone. Her
focus was not solely on Akbar's, however; she also is looking to improve our
community connections through a Y-mail alert and being able to send more than
one face part at a time to your friends.
PUNKnPIE has been a citizen since April 26, 2004, which means she became Whyville
Senator in less than nine months! That's probably a record, especially considering
that she earns a whopping 95 clams a day.
To those who ask how she's done so well with Whyville's games, she says, "When
I first started, I had lots of advice from friends who gave me tips. I encourage
everyone to start with the easier games. That will help you get to a point where
you understand the harder ones better."
She rents space in a house owned by Times Photographer FairyKiya, over at
Napier & Botticelli in the original Myville, Old Town.
The Senate Debate was held at the Greek Theater on Thursday, December 30. As
usual, there was no clear winner at the debate, though many issues came up and
each candidate spoke persuasively on the issues that mattered to them most.
In an informal poll after the debate, City Hall reports that the opinions of
a handful of citizens were swayed by the candidates' performances at the debate.
Congratulations to PUNKnPIE, biddygurl and babygrace! It was an exceedingly
close race between three great candidates. Whyvillians chose each of you as
the cream of the crop -- we hope you enjoyed running!
The official Inauguration will be held sometime in the next week. PUNKnPIE
will take the oath of office in the Greek Theater and may deliver an inauguration
address. If you come, you may also see Senator DivaSis, who is ending her six-month
term as Senator.
The next Senate race will probably begin in February. Think about your platforms,
and join us at the Senate Meetings when you can!
To update you on Whyville's political leaders, here's the list:
Current Senators = softbll12, hotboi764, PUNKnPIE
Former Senators = Giggler01, OrEoBaBy, Sonner, DivaSis
The next Senator to step down from office will be Senator softbll12.
