Hi Whyvillians! I was looking through the Times articles when I saw a "What's
New This Week" report from the Editor in which he talked about the first
picture ever posted in the Times. I got curious about other special events in
our revered newspaper, so I decided to make a timeline... of the Times!
= 1999 =
March 3: The first-ever issue of the Times!
July 22: First articles by Bigfoot Bill, Marty B., Dr. Lelia and cyranojoe.
October 7: The first-recorded contest was a house-building contest, won
by Sahuboy.
October 21: The first "What's New This Week" is published.
November 18: Mail comes to Whyville (and the Times).
December 2: The Times had its first report of a Whyville scammer (named
Flower).
= 2000 =
March 30: Apparently the first rumor: "City Hall may go on strike!"
(She did not, of course.)
April 13: The first article about boyfriends-girlfriends.
April 20: First pictures of Whyville in the Times.
April 27: Whyville announces the first Whyville prom!
June 22: The Times apparently has 49 articles (and cobd runs away, j/k!).
August 3: The first double issue of the Times, with an announcement of
ClamGrams and dances being introduced to Whyville..
August 24: The Times' first announcement of poll results.
= 2001 =
January 20 to February 5: The Great Whyville Black Out!!!
February 8: Club Why is announced.
August 30: The Times gives out its biggest prize ever: 100,000 clams!
October 11: The first Halloween Party is announced, and yes, the Why-Pass
is introduced.
November 22: The first "What's On" article by City Worker MediaWiz
appears.
November 29: Talk about a Whyville clam shower.
December 13: Announcement of a New Year's Masquerade Ball -- citizens
dress up and compete.
= 2002 =
February 14: Announcement of the first discovery of WhyPox.
April 25: Announcement of Live Y-Meeting: Regina!
June 20: Announcement of Whyville Safety Patrol
September 12: This Times issue contains 57 articles, a record!
= 2003 =
January 7: First BBS.
February 27: First time that the best articles are previewed on front
page in the Times' new (current) layout.
May 16: The Times Editor posts what appears to be his first "So
You Want to Write for the Times?"
July 11: Someone predicts that the Senate will be a popularity contest
(*gasp!*) and City Worker Calliope's "Critique Club" is started.
July 18: The first Whyville Senate Race begins.
October 24: "The Whyvillian" magazine is announced -- later
is postponed indefinitely.
= 2004 =
February 28: A live Y-Meeting is hosted in Virginia: real live City
Workers meet with Whyvillians, their teachers and parents!
March 6: The first Times crossword puzzle appears.
June 5: The first article announcing a "Meet the Makers" event
in Club Why.
November 30: Cobd dies of thorough exhaustion after putting this article
together.
There, I can now say I have clicked on every link in the Times archive. Whew!
