I recently finished reading a wonderful fantasy book by Christopher
Paolini called Eragon.
In this book, a normal farmboy happens to stumble across a
strange blue stone in the woods. He plans on selling it to buy food for his
family, but he quickly changes his mind once a dragon hatches out of the 'rock'
-- which was actually an egg!
Then strange hooded creatures start to ask about him around
the town of Carvahall. When his house is burned and his uncle, Garrow, dies,
the farmboy decides to leave with Saphira (his dragon) and seek revenge.
As he is 'borrowing' supplies to leave, he encounters Brom
the storryteller, who somehow knows about Saphira. Eragon decides to let Brom
join them during their travels.
Soon Eragon has learned magic, learned how to wield a sword,
and has been attacked by gigantic brutes called urgals. Just when he thinks
that nothing can surprise him anymore a fortune teller tells him that he'll
live a long life, but someone very close to him will die! She also tells him
that there is love in his future. Now what could that possibly mean?
Well, I already know, but you're just going to have to read
the book to find out.
This book has everything a good book needs: adventure, suspense
and twists that you will never see coming. Can you believe that the author
Christopher Paolini had just graduated form high school when he started writing
Eragon? In fact, he was only 15!
This novel really is a great start to what I believe will be
a long and successful career.
I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to get the next book
in the "Inheritance Series." If it's anything like the first, it'll
have a lot of readers staying up all night just to find out what happens.
