It was early Sunday morning. I woke up and groggily stumbled onto my computer.
With my eyes half-shut, I logged onto Whyville and checked my Y-mail. Then I
thought, why not see how some of my old friends are looking these days? With
a sleepy click, I came to my address book.
That's when I saw something that made my eyes unstick. I saw something that
made useless the coffee in front of me. I saw something that woke me up enough
to write this article...
NEW! Since you own a WhyPass, you can also send a People Finder message
to a friend by clicking the name below.
PEOPLE FINDER! The most anticipated privlege of owning a Why-Pass! It's here!
Finally!
Now, shall we test it out? I figured that, just to make sure it works, I should
first test it on another one of my Whyville IDs.
So I added my Fredlexa account to my address book and clicked on the name....
Let's see what we have here. Normal stuff, like a picture of a person, notes,
and the silence and vaporize tools. Oh! But what is below it?
Below all the usual stuff, I saw a box. A box and a list. Scrawled in that oh-so-recognizable
text was:
PeopleFinder
Request that Fredlexa meet you:
Below that is a pull-down box. You can select either Whyville Square, Whyville
West, the Sportplatz, the Beach, the Sunspot Roof, or the Playground. To my
dismay they had left out my favorite place -- Sector Y! Oh, well... new development
takes time.
So, what happens when I pick one of them? I'll just choose the Beach, I decided.
AHAH! A surprise! Because I was on my casc302 account at the time of writing
this, I was not on my fredlexa ID. This people finder is much smarter than I
thought, because it quickly told me, "Your message was NOT successfully
sent. Perhaps your friend is not online now or is not chatting at the moment.
Feel free to try again later."
Look at that! It knew that Fredlexa was not online, and therefore told me that.
Now, then, I thought, I should try all my other friends. Nope, none of them
were on.
Well, how about myself? No, I don't mean my other self. I mean me, casc302.
I clicked on myself in my address book and tried to get me to meet me in the
beach. But that didn't work either, because I wasn't chatting.
Now here's the bad news. Even when my friend DID sign on and WAS chatting,
it didn't work. But I bet you it will work soon!
Happy about the people finder,
casc302

Editor's Note: By the time this is published, the People FInder
should be mostly functional. Starting on Tuesday, if you come across any bugs, please Y-mail City Workers mark or neutral. Hopefully next week we'll have an article in the Times to explain how the People Finder works, for those of you with Why-Passes.
