For years, there have been lots of scams going around Whyville. For years, everyone has written in to the Times about them.

But there are always new people in Whyville -- new to the old scams, and new to make new scams. I am here to tell you that there are still scams out there, so read this article and be prepared if something like this happens to you!

1) Why-Pox Scam.

All of us probably know about the many variations of the Why-Pox scam by now. If not, then I'll inform you. If you have Why-Pox, scammers (or what some people call hackers) will come up to you and tell you that they have a cure for the disease. They'll say that all you have to do is give them your password, so they can go on your account and trigger the "cure."

THIS IS A SCAM. There is no cure for Why-Pox! NONE whatsoever! Don't let anyone tell you that there is because there just isn't.

Also, everyone gets Why-Pox. I got a why-mail from a girl who said that it's not fair that people like me don't get Why-Pox because we have face parts. Uh, no! I tried telling her that Why-Pox don't come from not wearing face parts, they just come from... catching it! But she insisted that people got it because they didn't have face parts.

If you go to the Beach or any other room, you'll see that lots of people WITH face parts have Why-Pox. It's a natural part of being a Whyvillian.

2) Trading Post Scam.

This one isn't as common, but if you're a trader, then watch out! What the scammers do, is they have two accounts. One goes on top of the Trading Post box, the other in the chair. Once the person likes what's being traded, they get their other account to float over the item they're supposedly giving you. They chat something to cover the item so that all you see is words -- you can't tell if the item is still there!

The scammer will take their part or parts down and trade with you, and you won't realize you gave everything away for nothing!

This scam isn't so common now -- I hear the City Workers were supposed to make it so that people couldn't chat over the price or the parts -- but it can be really bad if you give someone a whole lot of clams or a really valuable part! Just be careful while trading... make sure you know for sure what you're getting, and never hit okay while someone could block the trade screens.

3) Why-Pass Trick.

Some people will tell you that they can sell you their Why-Pass. That's not true -- you can't sell Why-Passes! Trust me! I have one!

You can also trust City Hall and the Times Editor, who have both said these people are definitely scammers.

As someone who owns a Why-Pass, let me tell you -- you don't get a card or anything, you just "have" one! So when people say they can sell you their Why-Passes, don't buy them, because it's impossible!

The good news is, there are not too many scams going around Whyville nowadays as there were in the last few months. It's becoming a safer society, in my opinion. We just have to keep it safe!!
