I recently came on Whyville for the first time in about three months. I was
surprised to see how each chartroom has become sort of divided by what people
look like. At first, I was afraid that I really wouldn't fit in with certain
people... but I decided to take a chance anyway.
I started a conversation with someone who was African-American in the Spin Speak.
We agreed on a lot of stuff, and really seemed to become friends.
I am really happy that I took a chance to get to know new people. I enjoy having
friends of different races, and I am really happy that Whyville encourages this,
though maybe we shouldn't separate ourselves by race the way some chat rooms
do. It's not like City Hall put a big sign up in any of these rooms, saying
"African-Americans only" or anything horrible like that.
Another place most people think has only a certain face-type is Sector Y, where
a lot of goths and punks hang out. I was once yelled at for trying to agree
with someone about music, but that doesn't mean I'm going to assume that everyone
in that room acts that way.
On a happier note, I appreciate those special days when we all look like "tater
tots." It is a chance for us to see beyond what we look like in Whyville,
and what we look like inside.
I hope I have encouraged all of you to do what I did, and talk to someone you
wouldn't normally talk to.
This is Sariberri, signing off!
