Since we put Club Why up on March 6, 2001, it's been generating quite an
uproar in town. Some people hate it, some people support it, some people
think it's a good way to support Whyville, others think it stinks.
We just wanted to be sure you know that we hear you!. We hear the
ones who are frustrated and concerned. We also hear the ones who are
helping to rally support for Whyville and Club Why.
We want to say thank you to all of you for caring enough about
Whyville to care and express an opinion, rather than just be apathetic.
This is exactly the kind of involvement that drives our town. Be sure that
we are going to listen to everyone so that together we can come up with a
way to make our town a better place.
Club Why was never meant to make Whyvillians feel left out or excluded. We
decided to put up Club Why as a way to ask Whyvillians to help Whyville, to
help support Whyville financially. We obviously didn't do things right if
that's how you feel. So, we are listening to you so that we can come up
with a solution that won't make citizens feel excluded AND will help
support the town.
The fact of the matter is, Whyville needs your support to survive. Whyville
was first created out of a bunch of cool ideas, a ton of devotion and hard
work, and generous contributions of a small group of people and
organizations. The truth is that the funding we got is all gone, and the
bigger Whyville gets, the more money we need. We need to buy computers, we
need to pay for our Internet connection, we need to pay our rent. As it is,
not everyone at City Hall
gets their paychecks each month, because we just don't have enough to go
around. It's taken a lot of sacrifices to keep this town afloat. Every
day, I'm amazed that these people still come in to the office and work so
very hard.
But we do, because like the citizens of Whyville, we love this town. We
want it to not only survive, but keep growing. So we are doing
everything we can to come up with the funding and support. We are
going after investors, we are even considering ads, AND we are asking
Whyvillians for their support.
Whyville just had its 2-year birthday on Wednesday, March 7. How many more
birthdays will we have? An infinite number of them, if it's up to me, but
it's not. It's up to ALL OF US.
So let's put our heads together and help our town! How do you
think we can make money? What we need is something related to how many
citizens we have, so as we get more people, we get more money. We have to
be able to pay our bills, but how?
Post your thoughts, ideas, opinions, suggestions on this special Club Why bulletin board!
A lot of you have said your parents won't let you spend anything on
Whyville, or that they don't understand Whyville. Send them over here! Set
them up with an account and teach them how to become a citizen. Teach them
to use the BBS and post their thoughts here.
We would LOVE to hear from parents, because they
usually decide what you get to spend money on. We'd love to help them
understand why Whyville is a good investment, as an awesome community AND as
the coolest educational site ever.
Speak to us; we will listen.
Thank you for your time!
