Hey, I'm Duckie38, and I was just sitting at my computer desk, looking at the Whyville Times and saying to myself, "I really want to write for the Times!" I've tried submitting before, but I think I did a few things wrong, so it didn't get in. Anyways, I decided to try writing again, so here I am, writing again, *laughs*.

I decided to make this article about helping the newcomers that enter our wonderful town. I just want to give them some advice about being happy here, and how to get respected by others. It's pretty simple, you'll be great once you follow my steps. Just keep in mind that these are only my opinions, so please don't be offended if you don't agree with some of my points.

First Lesson: Get clams! You can be a good Whyvillian with or without clams, but there is a lot of fun stuff to do if you have clams. To get clams (aka Whyville money) all you have to do is look on top of bus-looking thing that is on the left side of the screen, and find the red backpack. Click on it, and then you will be taken to a page with books, and other icons. Click on the black book titled, "Ledger." It's the first book on the center table.

You will be directed to a page that has records of what you earned/spent. Near the top of the page, you will see three tabs. One is called, "Bank Statement," one is called, "Salary Ledger," and one it called, "Bonus Ledger." Click on "Salary Ledger." You will then see a bunch of links that say "Skater game" or "Alien Rescue Game." There are 16 links there that are usable at the moment. The links "Sun Spot Puzzle" and "Whypox Score" are not usable at the moment. The links take you to a whole bunch of fun/educational games that you can play.

For each of the games you play, you get a clam raise depending on how many levels you completed, or something similar to that. You don't get the clams right away, though; you have to wait until the next day to get your money. It's like work, you don't get your pay until payday, but for us, payday is everyday. Many people will be able to explain the games to you if you ask nicely.

Second Lesson: Be polite! Once you can chat, don't go up to other users and type:

"hi im new her plz plz help me give me clamz im pooor."

It's not really polite, and they won't listen to you if you type with the chatting slang like "da" or "plz." Instead. for your City Records, you could type:

"Hey, I'm pretty new here, but I'm all up for meeting friends!"

It makes you look polite, and not silly. But, try to avoid:

"heyyyyyyyyyzzzzzzzz im a newbie plzzzzzzzzzzz help meeeee cuz im soooo poooor and i neeeeed sum clamz and i neeeeed a face plzz!!!"

It's kind of a bad impression if people come to look you up. They might think you're a desperate loser, and you don't want that kind of reputation.

Third Lesson: Join activities! On Friday nights you can go to the Greek Theater for Trivia Night, or on Saturday mornings for "Media Hour." You can always meet friendly people there; they all like to talk. It's a great way to start off and make friends!

You can also play Tic-Tac-Toe, Kalah, Artsets, Checkers, and Chinese Checkers. You can always meet friends there, and the games are fun too! Just make sure you are always polite whether you win or lose. You don't win clams, but it's a great way to be social!

Fourth Lesson: Get to know Whyville! Open the Whyville Times (the newspaper on the top of the bus-looking thing) and check the archives! They have tons of great articles about Whyville's history, from the day it began, to now! It will really help you to become an awesome, wealthy citizen!

Fifth Lesson: Have fun! If you're spending all your time trying to get "popular" or "rich," then there's no time to enjoy the heart of Whyville!

Now here's a little tutorial about how to add friends, send messages, and go through your Y-Mail.

To add a friend: If you want to send a message to someone you're talking to in a chat, double-click their face so that a little option box pops up. The choices are Vaporize, Silence, City Records, 911 Report, and Y-Mail. Click Y-Mail. You will be taken to a purple page. Type out the message, but then click the little check box that says "Add recipient to Address Book." Once you send the message, they will be added to your address book.

If you want to add them but you're not in chat with them, then click "Destinations" on the bus. Once you see all the options, scroll down until you see City Records. Click on it, look them up, and you will see a page with their face on it. Click on their face, and you will be taken to the purple page. Follow the steps from above.

To check your Y-Mail: Click the little cell phone icon on top of the bus. All your messages will be displayed. It's just like a e-mail inbox.

Well, that's the end of this article folks! I hope you liked it, and maybe learned a few things! I know it was pretty long, but I wanted everyone to be able to understand all the details. Thanks for reading!
