I'm not going to be the first one to say that some devastating things have happened in the world recently. I may however be the first one to show you the more spirit-lifting side of the media.

Way too many people concentrate on the bad things at the moment. I am not saying that we should totally ignore every victim of Hurricane Katrina, I'm not saying nearly that, but don't get yourself into the mindset that makes you think the world has gone bad. Today, I would like to show you some lighter aspects of news.

British school allows swearing during lessons.

A secondary (ages 11-18) school in Britain is allowing students to swear as long as they only do it five times in a lesson. The number of times they swear will be marked up on the board and if they swear more than five times in a lesson they will get a "stern talking to" after the lesson.

(Author's comment: Woah. . .I wonder how that rule came into place. Onto next story.)

German woman sets fire to house trying to kill spiders.

In Berlin, Germany a woman accidentaly set fire to her house while trying to kill some spiders. She had first tried to kill the spiders with aerosol but when that didn't work attempted to burn them with a cigarette lighter. The fire had spread to her house, leaving it uninhabitable.

Infants kept off planes.

Small children have been kept off planes due to a government "no fly list." Children as young as 11 months were not allowed to board planes as their names matched those on a list of over 100,00 people who should not either be allowed to fly or should be regarded with extra caution. This came into effect after the 9/11 attacks.

(Authors Note: I'd understand why they do that if it were not for the fact that it is slightly unlikely that a child that can't even talk or walk can plan a terrorist attack.)

China's Internet hospital.

Are you addicted to the Internet? Spend countless hours sitting at your PC so that the hours run into days without food? Some people living in China have been sent to a special "Internet Hospital" to help get over their addiction of computers and the web. 80 percent of the patients are addicted to games, 10 percent to chatrooms, 5 percent to gambling and 5 percent are just obsessed.

Well there's some of the wacky news that I have found. Of course there's more, people shooting annoying cars, new discoveries about smell-it television, facts about the obesity of pigeons in England. It doesn't just have to be on the Internet though. Next time you get a paper, read all the way through it, you may find some interesting facts.
