Remember being little? Remember playing with that ultra-skinny, rich, blonde, beautiful doll called Barbie? I do.

I remember getting my first Barbie when I was 5 for my birthday. She had long, beautiful, shiny, blonde hair all down her back and a pink, poofy ball gown with matching pink shoes. I would play with her forever, each day. I named her Galinda because at the time that was my favorite name. I'd brush her hair and my toy stuffie, who was a dog that would be her car and take her places.

Then I watched TV and soon saw there were even more Barbies! Teacher Barbie, Doctor Barbie, Lawyer Barbie, Model Barbie and Movie Star Barbie. I wanted them all! Pretty soon I had loads and loads of Barbie dolls, including the accessories Barbie's Dream Kitchen and Barbie's Pool Party, and even a Barbie Trailer!

But then as I grew older, I stopped liking them. I started thinking they were for babies. I'd pop off their heads and draw tattoos all over them and shave their heads. But now that I am 12, almost 13, I found my old Barbies. They were in my closet, in my room, in a big box! I took them out and looked at their shaved heads and sloppy tattoos and wished I hadn't done that.

Then I saw Galinda. She was the only one I hadn't ruined! She still had her beautiful hair and perfect skin. Since I wanted to be a hairdresser when I grew up, I decided to give her a trim. I did a pretty good job! She looked even better than when I got her. I also sewed her a zebra-print dress and matching tuque. Now I keep her on display in a glass box and only take her out when I want to fix her hair.

Try making your old Barbie, your new project!
