Hello Whyvillians! I know ideas about Whyville should usually be forwarded to your friendly neighborhood Senator or even put in Senate platforms, as that's the theme at the moment. I wouldn't say I'm overly experienced at the Solstice Safari, but I do know a thing or two about it, participating many times and leading a team once. So here are my ideas . . .
Team Leaders
Currently being a team leader doesn't show much. The Whyvillian is just a figurehead, which goes up when it shows the teams who did best. I think we should change this by giving them some power. For example, if they have been inactive in Solsitce for 3 or more weeks, the Team Leader should have the power to boot the person in question. They should also have more contact with Kiki. She y-mails them about when Solstice is going to finish, what the new challenges are, etc. I do not think that with the BBS system it is possible, but they could be able to delete posts and so on. This would mean we'd need a more accurate "choose-a-leader" system.
Time Between Challenges
I have noticed that when the Solstice challenges have been completed there is not much to do, and that leads to 90 percent doing nothing and the rest competing for the most posts. Maybe once a week/month we could set a task. This would be something like some research or a quiz that the team would post on the BBS and everyone that showed that they participated would get a clam bonus.
Mars
Has anyone actually been to Mars? I've never heard of it being done, but if you have, will you please point it out to me. If it hasn't been done I think that it should. In my opinion, working out the Solstice on Mars sounds like great fun :D.
Outstanding Achievement Award
Have you ever seen a member or a team that has done exceptionally well and you just think, "Wow." I think that there should be a few awards in Solstice for things like this. Just to make it a bit more fun and more people will want to participate.
The Solstice Safari is a very good part of Whyville and I think that we should try and expand it to make it more interesting for everyone. If you want to comment or discuss any of the points here, I strongly encourage you to post in the BBS.
