Where's the Disco? What are clams? How come I'm so ugly? Help! I can't chat for a long time! Why?

Those are some examples of questions a Newbie would ask. Here at Whyville we call them Newbies because they're new. Please don't take offense to it Newbies. First of all, welcome to Whyville! Second, since you're new, you're probably wondering some of the questions listed at the top. But, have no fear! I'm here! This article will help you with all the questions you have.

The Whyville Newbies' Manual: Part 1 -- Places and Destinations

The Disco, Sector Y, Greek Theatre, Beach, ah! I can't control them! Where are they? Most of the listed places are in the "Destinations" panel, others (such as Jupiter, Saturn, Moon, Mars, and Newspaper), you need to say the word "teleport" in front of them to get to that spot. But the destinations in the Destinations Panel are easy to get to. But, a question that most people have is, "Where is the Disco?" I too had the question once. But, I found out from a close friend that the Disco is located at Sector Y (found in the Destinations Panel). So you go to Sector Y there will be some dirt piles. You'll notice that there is a small one. Guess what? That's the Disco. Although at some point of your Whyville life, you will probably experience a Whyvillian blocking the Disco. To get past them, hold alt and click on the Disco pile o' dirt.

The Whyville Newbies' Manual: Part 2 -- Clams

Rich, poor, medium, so many types of money labeling. Most Whyvillians are quite poor, but I know for a fact that some are definitely not poor. A simple question a Newbie might ask is, "What are clams?" Well, clams are basically Whyville's type of currency. You use clams to buy face parts and other goodies. You earn a daily salary every day. Now, if you're wondering how to raise your salary (which you probably are), then here's how: Go to the red backpack on top of the bus, then choose Bank Ledger, then click on Salary and there are options that you are able to click on to go to. When you play those games, and complete certain levels, you can raise your salary.

The Whyville Newbies' Manual: Part 3 -- Y-Mail

What is Y-Mail? Y-Mail is simply Whyville's type of e-mail. But, the real question here is how to Y-Mail a person. Well, first of all, you must add this certain person to your address book. There are two ways. One way is to right-click on the person and choose Y-Mail. When you get to the next screen, there will be a Subject box, space to write your Y-Mail, and a right-clicker box which you have to click in order to add the person to your address book. This box will say beside it, "Right-Click to add to address book." Simply click on that and it's done once you send the Y-Mail. Another way is to memorize the person's name, go to City Records in the Destinations Panel, type in their name, click on their picture and do the same steps as above. To get to or check your Y-Mail, look on the bus, there will be a black thing. Click on that and there you go.

The Whyville Newbies' Manual: Part 4 -- Avatar

What is an avatar? Seeing how Whyville is a virtual reality chat site, you need an avatar. So your avatar is basically a cartoon face in which you use your clams (part 2) to buy cartoon face parts to dress up and dazzle your avatar. How do you get to your avatar dress up? You'll see a picture on the bus which is you. Click on that and there you go! Also, you can go to the Destinations Panel and choose "Pick Your Nose" (LoL, nice name)! There are a ton of people who ask if they're pretty or ugly and call you pretty or ugly. But remember, you're pretty as yourself.
