The Run For The Cure is a special event that is held once a year to raise money for breast cancer research. In my city of Calgary alone, we raised $1,500,000 towards research and had 14,000 people running.

That is just a small part of what we can do to help. If everybody raised this much money or more, we could hopefully find a cure within the next few years.

On September 30th, 2005, 500 students from my school gathered in the field while the Running Room set up for the race. We had each class go separately and we ran 3 kilometers and back. We had some volunteers who were there to help us as well.

It was a wonderful experience for me and my classmates to participate in a great cause like this one. I plan on running in the future in the city-wide run with my mom. If we all could raise awareness and help with this, I think we could have less victims than we do today.

In this year of 2005 an estimated 21,600 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 5,300 of them will die. We can change that statistic with kindness in our hearts and give to the community what they need the most. I hope I have helped you understand how important this issue is, and I hope at least some of you will run for this cause.

Thank you and I hope you enjoyed this.
