I currently live in a small town consisting of roughly 5,700 people. I have lived here my entire life and I know what a bore small town life can be. If you're like me, you are constantly thinking of ways to entertain yourself. Some people think a small, quiet town is a great place to raise a family, however, many disadvantages come along with small town life. As kids get older we tend to become bored with the lack of excitment, and many turn to drugs and alcohol. Before you consider doing this, listen to some of my ideas!!

1) Take up a new hobby. If you live in an area that is cold and snowy a lot, learn to snowboard! I'ts a great way to stay active and meet other snowboarding fanatics. If you live in an area that is warm and not very wet, learn to skateboard. Skateboarding is really fun and even if you have bad balance (like me) you will find it's not too difficult to master a few tricks in a week or so.

2) Get a job. If you are old enough and you find yourself bored most of the time, why not get yourself a job! You will be doing something constructive and earning yourself some cash at the same time.

3) Take your dog for walks on a regular basis. You and your pet can get some exercise together and you can get out and enjoy nature. Don't have a dog? Not a problem! I'm sure if you put up flyers around town, advertising that you are willing to walk people's dogs for a small fee, many will jump at the chance! Many people just don't have the time to take the family pooch for a walk. This is also especially good for the elderly who aren't fully capable anymore.

4) Organize a basketball, baseball or soccer game. Get a bunch of friends together and have a good time. Someone can even bring refreshments. You could have a game every week and take turns bringing the refreshments.

5) Spend some time with your family. Have a day at the beach if it's the summer months. If it's winter you can all head out for a fun day of skiing or snowmobiling.

These are just some of my ideas to beat small town blues. So don't despair! There is always something to do. It just involves getting creative!

Best of luck, Meg
