A little while ago I was reading the Whyville Times when I noticed the WITS. When I was done reading it, I thought, "She sounds nice, let's hear what people have to say about her winning."
I looked at the BBS and I saw a lot of insults. Such as, "She doesn't deserve it!" and "So what if she doesn't make fun of Elvis for dying on the toliet!"
I y-mailed EmmyEmmy moments after reading these horrible comments! She replied minutes later telling me how a lot of people y-mailed her with bad remarks.
I thought about how horrible things have become on Whyville. There are Oldbies versus Newbies. Before, when everybody was happy, Whyville was better.
I think the problem is that people are trying to be cool, so they make fun of people and eat their happiness for supper. Just kidding. But haven't you noticed they actually take the joy out of you? Before you make fun of somebody, look through their eyes.
Editor's Note: I have also noticed the lack of respect in the BBS's following the Whyvillian in the Spotlight. This section in the Times was supposed to be a place for Whyvillians to support one another. I wanted to give everyone a chance to highlight a friend, and hopefully show how great that person is to the rest of Whyville. This is not an "award" or a vehicle for saying one Whyvillian is better than another. If you would like a friend of yours to be spotlighted, then write an article on them! But do not put down someone else's article or the person in it if it is not your personal opinion. If the BBS continues to be as negative as it has been in the past few issues, then it may be time for the Whyvillian in the Spotlight to take a break. I hope we can all rise above the negativity and support each other because that is the Whyville Way!
