Many of us are not popular in the real world. If you're like me you view popular kids as self-centered snobs. And that's partially true, they insult other people who aren't as cool as they are. Today I was so fed up with these people, I decided to consult Websters for a definition
Popular: 1. Widely liked or appreciated 2. sought after for company
I would list more, but the rest of the definitions are more or less the same. But in this, popular means well liked by everyone, but in the real world, popular means the people everyone aspires to be, but everybody hates. Why are they popular then? Well at my school, it's all about what you wear, and not just the girls believe this either. The boys are decked out in Abercrombie, American Eagle, and Quiksilver.
Personally, I think these clothes are no different than any other, it just says the brand name which screams "Hey, I pay a lot of money for these clothes." Here are a few ways to not get pushed around if you're on the lower end of the food chain.
1. Don't follow the trend. Fads come and go, and remember when you buy a bunch of what's popular today, eventually they'll move on, and you'll be left with a ton of obsolete junk.
2. Stand out from the crowd. Nobody's going to notice you if you do what everybody else does. The popular's may have often become cool in the first place by starting the fad. So don't be a trend-spotter, be a trend-setter.
3. Ignore all negative comments. Everybody's going to get insulted now and then, but don't make a big deal out of it, pretend you don't hear them, and ignore the prescence of anybody that insults you all together.
4. Know your place. The first step of doing anything is always accepting who you are. Don't ask the most popular girl in the school out, or you may find yourself mocked and harrassed.
I hope these tips help you and remember, don't let those popular people get you down, they were once as uncool as you or me.
