The Whyville Way . . . hardly anyone knows about it anymore. It's been dying out since Whyville began, and as I look around Whyville now, it seems to be gone completely.
Think about it . . . a lot of people on Whyville now-a-days are rude, demanding, vulgar, dependent on others for clams, and a lot even engage in adult behavior by "making out" in chatrooms. Is this what Whyville's about? Of course not! Whyville is supposed to be an educational place to learn, and to have fun and meet friends while you learn about physics and science.
You can't go into a chatroom now-a-days without being asked if you're single, or being begged for clams. People use different symbols to bypass the servers and swear. People are rude towards certain people, such as Newbies. This is how Whyville's been since I joined, 13 months ago. We need to stop before things get even worse!
The only way to stop this is to follow the Whyville Way. What is the Whyville Way? I think Deriko summed it up best in his article from last September. This is taken right from the article:
* Have a good attitude towards everything. Think before you speak, make sure whatever you say is in good humor for everyone.
* Greet everyone. When someone enters the room, make them welcome.
* Make your look who you are. If you're unique, look unique! If you're spiritual, show it! If you're a conformist, then go with the flow, but don't forget to just be you!
It's impossible to expect everyone to follow all these rules. Nobody can. But if we try to go by these guidelines, perhaps Whyville can have a better future! Follow the Whyville Way, and make Whyville even more enjoyable for everyone!
