Hey Whyville. Today, I was in the Beach, while someone came in, asking people to sign his petition which was on the bottom. I had nothing better to do, so I went straight to the poll booth, and . . . I was quite surprised at what I saw.

Before I get into that, in case you don't know, the petition area is a place where you can put up an idea to help improve Whyville. People read your petition, and if they agree with your idea, they'll sign it. If it gets enough votes, it becomes a poll. If it gets many votes, it'll be submitted to City Hall, and put into consideration! Sounds like a great way to help Whyville, right?

Wrong.

Sure, there are a few good petitions put up every few days. But majority of them are worthless. I don't mean to sound harsh, but I've gathered a few I think you should take a look at. Note, these aren't edited in any way.

"so u like hmburgers i do well i guess that all good bye"

I'm not kidding you, this was an actual petition put up March 26th. Sad enough, it got four votes. People, this is a waste of time. It will not do anything for Whyville. Plus, the grammar and spelling is horrible. This can't possibly be taken seriously.

"OK I THINK THAT THERE SHOULD BE 50 FACE FACTORYS SO IT'S NOT ALWAYS BUSY"

This one got 15 votes. There are a ton of ideas like this. Here's why it won't happen: Whyville has thousands of active members. If each one of them made a face part, it would flood the servers! We'd lose memory, accounts, the site may even fail. This is why only certain people get priority access.

"I THINK WHE SHOULD BEABLE TO BUY A WHYPASS OUT OF CLAMS"

16 votes. Another very largely made petition. Here's why this won't happen: Whyville costs real money to operate. A lot of it, actually. If Whypasses could be bought with fake currency, nobody would pay real money for them, and Whyville would be unable to afford the costs to operate the servers. So, this will not be put into effect, no matter how many votes you get.

Last one:

"think we should have hot spots like kissing booth, clubs, dating games, things like that. Something that would actually be interesting like some people want a bf and i do and the guys want a gf well they could go on games like that and meet up and then we would be able to kiss if people voted on the bodies so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE VOTE 4 ME!!!!!!!! ????"

Another 15 votes. Whyville is a chat site, not a dating service. This will never, ever be put into effect.

If you want your petition to be considered, here's a few things to consider:

1. Use good grammar! A few misspellings here and there won't be the end of the world, but at least spell things out. Don't abbreviate things, and try not to make run-on sentences.

2. Be realistic! Whyville can't do everything. Try to keep things basic. I've seen one, asking for a way to style your hair. This is not possible, no matter how much coding you put into it.

3. One idea per petition! If you put a ton of ideas into one petition, it won't go through. Simple enough.

4. Actually have an idea! You read the first petition I put up. This isn't a place to get people who have similar interests to sign your petition. Have an idea, elaborate, and use all these rules, and you may have a chance to have your petition go to City Hall!

I've been looking through the petitions for a while now, I can't find a single well thought out, grammatically correct petition. Come on, Whyville, we're better than this! Help City Hall out, don't waste their time!
