Have you heard of Coco Chanel? You probably have and are thinking, "Oh yea, that company." Well, truth be told, Coco has done much more that just start a clothing company. She has made art shine through her couture creations.

She was born in France in 1883, and originally named Gabrielle. Coco's mother died when she was jut twelve, leaving her and her four siblings in care of their father, who would soon abandon all of them.

Gabrielle got the name "Coco" from working in a cafe called La Rotonde. She was a cabaret singer and would perform the song "Qui qu'a vu Coco."

In 1910, Coco set up a clothing store in Paris and called it "Chanel." By the 1920's Coco's high fashion clothing had become very popular. She created the famous "Chanel suit" look for women.

By 1921, Chanel had introduced a perfume called "Chanel No. 5." This scent became famous and still is!

Chanel is also the maker of a famous "little black dress." Some of you might have seen Audrey Hepburn wear the dress in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Coco Chanel passed away in 1971, still working on her clothing. So, not only is Coco Chanel a designer, but a revolutionary in the fashion world.
