Everyone knows that you can tell the age of a tree by counting its rings, right? But does anyone know who first discovered the theory of botanic chronology (a fancy latin word for counting rings)? Why it was Leonardo DaVinci! A great man indeed.
Leonardo was a brilliant mathematician and inventor who displayed his discoveries through art. A lot of his works were controversial (he even once drew a detailed anatomy of the human body by examining a dead guy, yuk!), but plenty of them were accepted by all. Take, for instance, the Mona Lisa. A picture of a young woman, who no one can tell whether or not she's smiling. He also made a painting for the Catholic church, he called it "The Last Supper". At the time, he could have made it so that it would last for centuries, but he didn't like the Catholic church very much, so he painted it in such a way that it would fade away in a short maner of time.
Leonardo DaCinci lived in Italy in a city called Milan. Milan had a huge beautiful cathedral called (surpise surprise) Milan Cathedral. You can even walk on the roof of Milan Cathedral!! DaVinci liked it in Milan, he noted the beautiful scenery, but he was greatly insulted when he woke up one morning to find archers of the French military using his statue called "Gran Cavallo", a model for a statue of a horse, for their morning target practice. He eventually ended up moving to Venice, where he was hired as a military engineer and invented such things as the armored car, the air screw, the hang
glider, the machine gun (simply many small cannons positioned together), cluster bombs, the parachute, the submarine, the first noted mechanical calculator, and even the first prgramable robot(at first glance a car run by a spring)! He even worked around the notion of solar power when he used bowl-shaped mirrors to heat up a gian tub of water.
Clearly, he is worth everybody's recognition. He's brought us a lot of cool things to learn, and a lot of inventions here today were based on his original drawings and notes. Maybe there should even
be a type of holiday dedicated to his honor. I know I would cast my vote for it, wouldn't you?
