In the last issue, there was an article by Bluebag called "Copyright It". In her article, she stated that face parts should be copyrighted, so that no one could remake a part ever again. The idea is not new to Whyville as there are many articles about copyrighting.

There are many pros and cons of copyrighting, so that's why no one ever agrees on the idea. The pros are:

-Your/someone else's parts won't be remade ever again.
-No one is taking your hard-earned clams.
-Fights are avoided. :P
-Whyville has more room for the servers and in the mall.
-People won't get confused with what's original and what's a remake.

And the cons are:

-You won't see rare parts remade ever again, which means people will complain to the designer who made the part.
-It's not a competition!

I'm against the whole idea of copyrighting face parts. If you want to make some serious clams by becoming a designer and joining the whole business, then that means there's going to be a lot of risks. Since Whyville's an educational site, having copyrights would make Whyville less realistic, and less educational because this is what the real world is like! Sure, books, ideas, poems, songs, bands, etc. can be copyrighted, but do you see pieces of clothes, lipsticks, blushes or perfumes being copyrighted? How can you copyright them anyway? The only thing you can copyright is the store's name.

Another reason why I'm against copyrighting face parts is that Akbar would take even longer to accept face parts and put them in to the mall! It would put much more stress on him. There's about 25,000 + face parts in the mall last time I checked, and of course there's remakes in there. Not only that, but there's also thousands of other face parts left unrestocked. So if we got copyrights, that might mean Akbar would have to go through all those face parts to find the very first original part, and delete the rest! Think of how much time it would take for just one part.

Whyville does in fact have a copyright rule; it's where you can't take something copyrighted from real life (like Elmo, Tigger or Nike, etc.) and draw it on Whyville. But somehow you can still see Elmos, Tiggers and iPod drawings . . .

So that's why I think there shouldn't be copyrighted face parts one Whyville. It'd be fair, but would it be worth it? Think about it.
