Citizens on Whyville need to grow up. Going around Whyville, I have seen too much name calling, harassing, and fighting. Some citizens even like to act like they are better then others just because they have been on longer or have a Scion. They make fun of the Newbies but, yet forget that at one point they were a Newbie too. What is going on with citizens now-a-days?

I can say that I have been a member of Whyville since year 2000, but under the name luvsboyz. Back then people were less judgemental, more accepting, helpful and overall nicer. Maybe because at that time we were all pretty much Newbies. I don't know how to explain it, but things were different.

It wasn't until I took a break from Whyville and came back on about a year later that the blocking of certain words came about. It took me by surprise because words I would use in everyday conversations, were blocked. So I would need to keep rephrasing but yet I was saying nothing to harm and took it by surprise that someone would use that to harm. At that point the swearing, name calling and harassing still wasn't that bad. The worst thing that I can remember being said was "that is my seat, get out" or "get off my head." Either way things got busy for me and I took another long break.

Recently, I got back on to show my cousin Whyville because I remember it being a place that I really enjoyed and had a great learning experience. So I set up an account, to start relearning everything in order to show her. I went to different areas around Whyville and watched the conversations going on. One guy started to harass a girl because she was "ugly." Being a bit older then most of the children on here, I interveined. He then went on to call me a "Newbie" said that my face was "ugly" and tried to get the other citizens to go after me. He also tried taking jabs at my outside of Whyville life, granted it didn't bother me because he was completely wrong, but still others may get incredibly hurt. I had a few encounters like that. I also observed people going after eachother with negative stereotypes, because of how eachother were dressed.

The truth is all of this is just a front. No one knows who anyone is outside of Whyville. Which, goes along with the fact that you should never give out your personal information. I know of girls that pretend their guys and visa versa. If people can do that, what doesn't stop them from pretending to be a different age, but I have gone off the point. Basically, what I have seen is more people are becoming to judgemental on Whyville. They have forgetten about what matters the most, a person's character. The thing is you can have all the money in the world but on Whyville you may be poor. Or you could be ugly on Whyville but gorgeous in real life. You just don't know.

More and more children are having issues with self esteem and depression. They can't differentiate between fact and fiction. To them the fiction may seem like the truth such as, if someone calls them ugly, they may really believe they are ugly. Some people may take the comments said on Whyville to be truthful and they may truly affect/hurt a person's real life. The thing is we don't know each others' personal lives, what they think and how they may react. To say that another person "has no life" or that they are "ugly", can be taken further then Whyville.

Whyville still has any other learning site beat by far. It is a site that really works out the minds of students. Yet, this site is still interesting, entertaining, and fun. The only thing I wish is that some of the citizens could take a step back and remember what it is like to be new. But some citizens need to take a further step back and look at what they are really saying. Think to yourself: Do I really know this person? Do I know their background, their reactions, or the way they feel about themselves?, Do I know how this will affect them as a person, will they take it beyond Whyville? Most importantly ask yourself: Would I want someone to do this to me? I am sure all those answers will come up mostly "NO". In that case please be a little more courteous to one another and if someone isn't courteous back just ignore them. After all this is just Whyville.
