Qtever90 here to talk about an important subject, especially with the school year fast approaching.
This article is targeting mostly junior high to high school kids, but all ages are welcomed to read!
How much does your bookbag weigh during the school year? Don't know; well, the amount students are keeping in their bookbags seem to be growing every year.
Bookbags seem to be getting more and more complex all the time; you can now by bookbags with enough room to store shoes, clothes, and even laptops! Now, let me ask you something; How many of you are going to be carrying laptops back and fourth to and from school?
Studies have shown that more and more students are getting back problems, mostly due to having too much weight being put on their backs from their bookbags.
On a recent television news program I saw that the most someone should be carrying in their bookbag is 10% of their body weight. So, if someone weighed 130 pounds, they should be carrying no more than 13 pounds on their back.
Students have beeen carrying too much in their bookbags; they even carry things that don't need to be carried back and fourth to school.
I will admit that even I carry a few things in my bookbag that shouldn't be in there, like a camera, shoes, makeup and my MP3 player. But honestly, those things don't really need to be
brought to school.
Now, you might ask, what should we put in our bookbags for school?
Depending on your age, some things on this list might not apply to you.
1)Homework - We need not be forgetting this!
2)Lunch/Lunch money - We all need to eat at school!
3)Toolkit/writing tools - We need them for school.
4)A sweater and/or PE Clothes - It might be cold, and depending on if you need to change for PE you'll need to wash your PE clothes once in a while.
5)Textbooks - For studying and/or doing homework.
This brings me to a quote from my seventh grade English teacher.
"You don't need to have every earthly posession on your backs, you're not turtles!"
