I know that we all turn on the radio and hear songs that we probably shouldn't be listening to. Everybody does it. But I have found a way to still listen to catchy tunes without the bad language and inappropriate content: Show Tunes!
You know -- songs from musicals on Broadway and around the world? These songs have me hooked and I can't stop listening. I currently have 3 Broadway musical soundtracks:
1) Wicked: This musical tells the story of the two witches in the Wizard of Oz before Dorothy came into the picture. Three of the best known songs on this soundtrack are "What is This Feeling (Loathing), Popular, and Defying Gravity." It is my favorite CD of all time and I highly recommend it.
2) Hairspray: I don't know much about this musical except that it is set in the 60's and is about a girl who wants to be a star. She is in love with a guy that stars in the show that she auditions for. The music is great and features songs like "Good Morning Baltimore," "Mama I'm a Big Girl Now," and "You Can't Stop the Beat."
3)Rent: This musical is about a bunch of people struggling to pay their rent and trying to survive the AIDS epidemic. Some of these songs are a tad inappropriate, but most of the songs aren't and are really catchy. Some of the feature songs include "Seasons of Love," "Light My Candle," and "Take me or Leave Me."
I am also looking into buying the Phantom of the Opera CD, which I have heard is really good. Both Rent and Hairspray have been made into movies, so I definitely recommend seeing them. So next time that you turn on the radio and hear a bad song or if you just want something new to listen to, try out some show tunes, and I guarantee that you will get hooked.
