Hello Whyvillians! I'm happy to be here once again, helping to expand your food knowledge. How did everyones cupcakes turn out?

Today I'll be talking about sandwiches. They can be one of the simplest, or most complex foods. There are so many possibilities with sandwiches that you can epxlore. At this point, I would like you to throw your boring white bread out the window. Umm. But maybe you shouldnt do that. Because people might still want toast.

I'm sure we've all had a boring old ham and cheese sandwich on two pieces of boring white bread. Ham and cheese is okay, if that's what you like, but why not try it on whole wheat bread, or on some toasted french bread. Or even in a wrap! It's good to experiment with your food, even if you don't end up liking it.

I'm going to tell you about a few different sandwiches, that I think taste absolutely fabulous, but don't be afraid to experiment with the ingredients to make it your own. Just because I absolutely love turkey, doesn't mean you can't substitute it with ham, roast beef, or even a meat alternative, such as beans, or some sort of luncheon meat like tofu. If they even sell that. But I know they sell tofu chunks flavoured like chicken. Or at least they're supposed to taste like chicken. But that's another story.

When you're making a sandwich, you have to know which cheeses taste good with which meats. Cheddar, swiss, monterey jack, mozzarella, and gouda all taste good with ham, while turkey is better suited to cheddar or havarti. Since beef and salami generally have a stronger taste, they don't have many options other than monterey jack and cheddar. But remember, you can use any cheese with any meat if you think it tastes good. These are mearly guidelines.

Turkey Bacon Wrap

Some people don't consider this a sandwich, but if it isn't a sandwich then what category does it fall under? Well wraps I guess . . . But this one is one of my all time favorites.

It's fairly obvious that this is intended to be made with turkey and bacon, but you can use anything youd like. Things I'd recommend adding to this wrap include, cheese, lettuce, peppers, olives, mushrooms, and anything else you might enjoy. Lay the meat onto the soft tortilla, and put everything and anything you want on top. Now the secret to rolling wraps. Or wrapping wraps, whatever you want to say. No one wants a bunch of tortilla on the end of their wrap. first, fold in two sides, and then fold in one of the other sides and roll it up. Both of the sides should be tucked in so nothing can escape.

Cracker Sandwiches

These can be used as an appetizer for a meal, or just as a fun snack any time. There are so many different kinds of crackers you can use, like wheat crackers, cheese crackers, vegetable crackers, soda crackers, and so many more. If you're using luncheon meat for this snack, I'd recommend asking to get it shaved when you're ordering at the deli. This just means that they will cut it very very thin, so you won't get slices, you'll get what looks like ripped apart slices of turkey, but it saves you time. If you don't like luncheon meats, you could try this with cream cheese, or if youre vegan, some sort of soy spread could work.

Lay out your crackers on a platter, or on a plate if its just a snack. Put your choosing of main topping on the crackers, and top with any of the following: diced tomatoes, a cucumber slice, a piece of cheese, olives, pickles, relish, mustard, or whatever youd like. Putting a cracker on the top is optional.

Toasted Sandwiches

Toasting any type of bread will bring on an exciting twist to an old favorite. You can toast anything you want even if it doesn't fit in your toaster, with your parents permission, you could put it in the oven for about a minute or until crispy. French bread, baguettes, and bagels make good toasted sandwiches. Top with your favourite ingredients and you're ready to go.

Now for a bit of interesting information. Most people who are lactose intolerant can still eat cheese strings!

Yours in Whyville,
Dartanian
