Hello Whyvillians! Dragracin here to tell you about the little boot shaped state(my hometown), Louisiana. Most people think Louisiana is known for cajun creole food, gumbo, jambalaya, and most famous, crawfish. Well, they're right. I asked a lot of my friends if they even new what gumbo, crawfish, or jambalaya even were! Guess what their answers were: no. I was surprised at the answers I got and decided to tell fellow Whyvillians just what these foods are.
Now, first of all we have the gumbo. There are many types of gumbo like, chicken, sausage, pork, beef, fish, shrimp, crawfish, or just plain or seafood gumbo. Gumbo is a soup/stew with optional rice. There are many ways to cook it and if I listed all the ways to cook it, this article would go on until the Saints win the Super bowl. (Just a little Louisiana humor. You can look on the Internet and find some of the many ways to cook gumbo. If you want the best though, you need to come down here in the South.
Second we have the delicious jambaylaya. First thing we need to get straight, you do not pronounce it [JAM-BAY-LAIYA] it is [juhm-bul-lie-a]. The definition of jambalaya is: a dish of Creole origin, consisting of rice cooked with optional ham, sausage, chicken, or shellfish, herbs, spices, and vegetables, esp. tomatoes, onions, and peppers. Once again there are many ways to cook this dish. But I'd have to say, my favorite is Chicken and sausage.
I saved to best for last, the famous crawfish. Okay ,do not think crawfish is a fish because it is not. Crawfish is like a baby lobster. You can cook them in a crawfish boiler which is what I call it. You add seasonings and if you want, potatoes, tomatoes, spinach, onions, bell pepper, corn, squash, brussel sprouts, garlic, or anything that would make you and your family happy!
Enough about food, let's talk about the people in Louisiana. If you were one of my friends you would maybe say I was funny, nice, sweet, outgoing, and maybe a little ditzy at times. Right? If you come down here I guarantee you will find a lot more people like me. Northerners would probably not understand the way we talk. For example: "I'm fixing to go to the mall." This would sound perfectly normal to someone in Louisiana. But, if you look closely it doesn't make sense at all. Definition of fixing: repair; mend; become useful. If you replaced fixing with its definition it would sound like this: "I'm repairing and mending to go to the mall." As you see it makes no sense when you go into research on the words Louisianans say.
Mardi Gras in Louisiana is so exciting! I go to New Orleans every year for Mardi Gras and it's so full of happiness and joy. Louisiana is the capitol for Mardi Gras and if you come down here one year you might see why.
Well hopefully one year you will come down here for vacation or something because you can learn a lot about this little boot shaped state I call home.
