Hello Whyvillians!

Have you ever heard about the Iditarod? Well this fascinating event happens every year in March, in Alaska. The Iditarod is an event where dogs pull people on sleds. They travel for hundreds of miles to race to the finish line!

There are a lot of participants. One musher (person who controls the sled) that I can always count on is Jeff King! He was a champion three times in a row.He also won the Iditarod last year. Have you ever heard the stoy about Balto, and what he did? There was a town in Alaska where people were very sick. The medicine to cure them was far away.It was snowing a lot!The roads were blocked. The only way to get the medicine was to travel by sled. So people got their dogs and mushed to get the medicine. Well they did, and cured everyone in their hometown! That's how this event was invented.

Now, people race to get prizes, and also because it's a favorite of theirs. There is a money prize and usually, a car prize.
