Hey, My name is amanda, and I have decided to writed about the Krakatau (Krak - a - toe - a) in the Times. What is the Krakatau?

The Krakatau is a volcano between the islands Sumatra and Java; on August 27, 1883 it erupted. It was the loudest sound ever recorded, in the history the entire world, nothing louder in this world has never been heard. Everyone within miles of the Krakatau was hearing impaired or they were completely deaf.

The Krakatau is on the coast of Indonesia, between the island of Java and Sumatra. Indonesia contains of 130 active volcanoes. Which is more than any other country in the world has.

Before Krakatau erupted in 1883 it was an estimated 2,000 meters in height and had a radius of over 9 kilometers. Then, early in the morning of May 20, 1883 a German warship named The Elizabeth, reported seeing a 9 km high cloud of smoke rising on top of Krakatau. That was the first eruption of Krakatau in centuries. But it wasn'???t the last. From the 20th to the 26th of August, Krakatau was smoking and spewing ashes. Then on the 27th of August the Krakatau erupted.

When the Krakatau erupted it caused a tsunami which was over 120 feet tall, and killed over 38,000 people. It destroyed 162 towns and villages and damaged 132 towns with falling rocks and ashes flying everywhere. When the Krakatau erupted three other volcanoes named Perboewatan, Danan and half of Rakata collapsed. The eruption of Krakatau also caused pieces of rocks and ashes to go flying all over of an area of 300,000 meters, which also killed a lot of people.

When Krakatau had finished it's violent eruption it left a new island named ???Anak Krakatau??? which actually means ???Son of Krakatau???. Anak Krakatau is 813 meters above sea level and it is has a diameter of 150 feet. In January of 1960 a group of scientist visited Anak Krakatau to observe any activity and to measure changes in the size and shape of the island. They noticed a cloud of ashes and smoke rising above the volcano. They observed the explosive eruptions happening on the Anak Krakatau but that stopped days later. Now, people are allowed to walk on Anak Krakatau in search of minerals, and volcanic rocks. Some scientists say that Anak Krakatau will erupt again some day, it will be just as bad as Krakatau was or possibly even worse.

This is Amanda, signing off.
