It's the night of your school's orchestra concert and you are nervous, but excited. You warm up before you go out to play some songs. Everyone is in their assigned position and the when the curtain opens, you find yourself sitting at a piano. Then you begin to wonder, what do I really know about the piano?

You probably know what a piano is, or what it looks like. You might even have one at your house that you or your parents used to play, or maybe it's just there as a decoration. Well, if you would like to know more about pianos, then you have come to the right place, err article.

The person who invented to first piano was Harpsichord maker Bartholomeo Cristofori, in 1709. He did this by replacing the quills with leather-covered wooden hammers. This gave the piano a better tone quality and it was easier for the person who was playing it to make it louder or softer.

Here are some facts about how pianos look today, most pianos have 88 keys. The keys are arranged like this: 52 of them are white and the other 36 of them are black. The black ones are either sharps (#) or flats (b). The white ones are regulars. The piano alphabet starts with the letter A and ends with the letter G. There are about 11 or 12 of each letter on the piano.

There are many different versions of the piano. The one that most people probably know is the baby grand piano. This piano is picked the most to be used because of it's small shape, size, and it's classy, old-fashion look. The pianos like the petite grand, the baby grand, the medium grand, the parlor grand, and the concert grand are all, you guessed it, grand pianos.

There are other types of pianos, such as the spinet, the console, the upright and the studio. These are all vertical pianos. The difference between vertical pianos, and grand pianos, is that vertical pianos stand more vertical, while grand pianos tend to be more tilted. Grand pianos also produce a finer tone or sound quality.

Have you ever thought about playing the piano, but thought that you wouldn't use it in a band? Well, most songs are created on the piano. Also, if you learn the piano it's like the same as learning the keyboard, xylophones, or synthesizer, which are commonly used in songs today.

I hope you learned a little something about the piano.

Until next time,
