Bonjour Whyville, bet you didn't know I would write about Mardi Gras, eh? Well I did some research and this is what I found out.

Did you know that it wasn't always called Mardi Gras? Before it was called, Shrove Tuesday, Fat Tuesday, and my favorite Pancake day. This celebration takes place not only in New Orleans, but also in different places around the world. Two of the famous places are: Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and Venice, Italy. Many people think of this celebration as the world's biggest free party, however it has a spiritual meaning.

It is a celebration that is held just before the beginning of the Christian season of Lent. Lent is a preperation that leads up to Holy week. Holy week looks back on the events that led to Christ's cruxifiction on Good Friday and his ultimate resurrection on Easter Sunday. Some religions give something up or importance to them during this period.

Mardi Gras celebrations may differ, but there are two things that they will always have.

1. A Mardi Gras king in the parade.
2. Colorful floats, with people in flamboyant costumes that throw out brightly colored beads and trinkets to the crowds.

Also they have a traditional king cake. Which holds a small trinket inside of it. The person who gets the trinket in their cake, has special privileges.

I actually got to talk to somebody who has been to the Mardi Gras celebration. Her name is xOHugz.

Cupofcake: Hello, have you ever been to a Mardi Gras celebration?
xOHugz: Yes :)
Cupofcake: Where did you go to celebrate it?
xOHugz: New Orleans, it was very magical.

Cupofcake: What did you do while you were there? xOHugz: We attended a parade and party which both included masks, beads, and King cake. After the parade some familes were invited to the terrance, and we had a blast!
Cupofcake: Where is the terrance?
xOHugz: The terrance was a hotel in New orleans, they had it completely decorated for Mardi Gras. Like I said before it was so memorable.
Cupofcake: Sounds like it was fun :D

It was nice to meet someone who actually had the experience of Mardi Gras it sounded really fun :)
