Hey all you Whyville citizens! Yes, I am here to deliver the subject of Finals! Yes finals as in your final grade for school.
Lately, I've noticed that my peers and I are not performing in school as well as we used to, but we should. My teachers have passed onto me thoughtful advice, and I will pass it on to you now.
I can picture most of everyone reading this saying, "I do study. I just can't pull of my grade I'm striving for." Well it could be your study habits need improving so here are some tip to get you back on your toes and studying!
1.) First of all, gather all necessary materials needed to study (i.e. textbook, binder, calculator, etc.)
2.) Now, make sure that the lighting around your study area is good. You don't want to be working in the dark.
3.) The chair that you're sitting on should have a straight back. You supposed to have good posture when doing academically-related things.
4.) You'll have questions, and sometimes you won't always be able to get the answers. Ask a parent or elder sibling for advice and help.
5.) Sometimes it's easier to study alone, or with a friend. You can choose either way to study.
6.) Make mental notes on things that you think are important. Keeping this information stored in your head is the main key. But how do you do it? Here's your answer: Say each fact out loud, repeating it three times. This helps your memory.
7.) I found flash cards with a buddie always helps. It strives you to remember them to prove to them you're smart (works better if you're competitive)
Remember not to cram!
Try to take at least one weekend off from your regular schedule, stay home, and prepare yourself for your finals. Study a minimum of two to three hours for each individual final, so you are fully prepared. Waiting until the last minute will not do much good.
Don't stay awake all night studying.
There are appropriate times for studying, and at two in the morning, is not one of them. Your brain can not hold all the information being forced into it when you are mentally exhausted after your long day.
Get some extra sleep.
Even if your favorite television show is on, or you are waiting for a phone call, during your big tests you want to make sure to get at least eight to nine hours of uninterrupted sleep, so you wake up refreshed and not groggy.
Eat a good breakfast.
Studies show that if you eat in the morning, you will be more mentally stimulated, awake, and will not be worrying about how hungry you are during the test, which will help you stay focused. I know how hard and frantic it can be to get ready in the mornings, rushing so you don't miss your bus, or ride to school. That's where rule number one will help you out, getting some extra sleep will help you feel less rushed in the morning, and you might even be able to get up a little earlier to cook a healthy breakfast. Be sure to try planning your meals on Whyville, too! See if your meals are too big or too small for your height and body weight.
