I'm back with yet another not-so-known place! The idea from this article came from the fact that my cousin has recently gone on a trip to this place. This place is not an island as the last two have been, but a country on land. In Central America to be precise. It's got a Caribbean and a Pacific coast, with Guatemala to the West, El Salvador to the South, and Nicaragua to the East. This not-so-known place is known as Honduras.

Honduras is the second biggest country in Central America. It is a little smaller than the state of Tennessee. It is said that Mayans lived there in the old days. The major Mayan city was called Xukpi. Weird name huh?

Honduras is mainly mountains, 87% if you want specifics. There are narrow plains along the coasts though. There's a big undeveloped Jungle (La Mosquitia ) too. And there's the heavily populated San Pedro Sula valley.

Honduras has a huge range of plants and animals too. There are more than 6,000 species of vascular plants (plants that have a specialized system for water and nutrients.) 630 of those are orchids. There's 250 reptile and amphibian species, 700 bird species, and 110 mammal species. Honduras has rainforests, jungles, cloud forests, mangroves, and savannahs, and a ton more.

Honduras has a different culture too. Some of their holidays are, Independence Day on Sep. 15, Dia del Ni??o (Day of the child), and Easter. It is a country full of folk lore and there are many stories passed down. Football (soccer) is their favorite sport as in most of Central and South America.

Here are a few random facts:

1. Honduras foods almost always have coconut in them.
2. Most of the people are Mestizo's (Spanish and Indian)
3. They export a lot of coffee and bananas.

So there you have it. Some things about Honduras. Maybe you enjoyed reading about it. It is yet another place I'd like to go to someday. Like I said the idea from this article came from when some of my family went there on a trip a little while ago. They said they loved it. Well, This is me signing off, saying TTFN!
