There are a few things in one's life that will change it forever. Good friends are one of those things. Fortunately, I have a story of a friendship that has changed my life. My best friend in the world is Hannah. When I was three years old I moved to my current home. The first week we were in our new house we visited a church where I met Hannah. Our families immediately became friends, especially Hannah and I as well as my sister and hers, Madeleine and Katherine who were only a month apart. We were all great friends immediately.

A few months later we started preschool, we were only one month apart, so we were in the same class throughout school. The two of us were inseparable throughout preschool, kindergarten, and the beginning of elementary. We hung out not only during school, but for hours after school. Our afternoons were filled with make believe games such as Indians and Boxcar children. We enjoyed hours of pretending to be different characters along with our sisters. I never wanted the worry free afternoons to end, but we grew up and our interests changed.

As we got farther into elementary in third and forth grade, we drifted farther apart at school, but were still great friends outside of class. I started hanging out with other girls in my class and Hannah started hanging out with the guys, playing sports. However, when we were together outside of school we continued to have a great time. Our activities changed a bit to biking around towns we built as well as playing tag with our sisters.

After fourth grade, my life changed. Hannah's dad got a job in Michigan which meant that their entire family would have to move there. I felt as if my life was over. I really realized just how great our friendship had been. As the saying goes, I didn't appreciate what I had until it was gone. Although I'd like to give you a happy ending, Hannah and I have slowly been drifting apart. Our interests have changed, but it's to be expected. We see each other about every two years and will again this summer. Though our friendship will never be the same, it was something that never wavered. Hannah is still my best friend, despite the distance between us.
