Citizens of Whyville, I'm here to give you some background information about Darfur. Darfur is an Islamic country located in the Western Sudan, which is in Africa. Darfur received their independence in 1956. Their flag colors are green, peach and white.

There is a terrible war going on there and thousands of people are dying. The more people are informed, the more we can help. I wanted to see how many people were aware about the war going on in Darfur.

I interview Dancer153 and this is what she had to say.

Crzyb15: Do you know what's going on in Darfur?
Dancer153: No, I am sorry to say that I really don't. I have heard about something, but it has slipped my mind.
Crzyb15: Do you think the media talks about Darfur a lot?
Dancer153: No, because I read and watch a lot of media. Nothing is on about it in the stuff I read which includes newspapers, Internet articles and TV.
Crzyb15: What are some ways we can educate the citizens beside the media?
Dancer153: Hmmm...I can't think of any ways. The media is everyone's source of information, and if the media isn't broadcasting it enough, what else will? Maybe if there were speakers on it that came to schools and stuff.
Crazyb15: Do you think we should study history today instead of past history?
Dancer153: Well, we need to know our past to know where we are going...but past history is really boring. On the other hand, modern history will also help us in our future. I think we should learn about life changing events, like major wars and stuff. Not battles and all the strategy and stuff. We should learn something that is going to help us.
Crzyb15: Give me some ways that we can educate the Whyville community about what's happening in Darfur?
Dancer153: Well, the Whyville Times is a great way. Also, posting what it's about in your City Records is great too. I think a lot of people look at those. Also just go around and tell people about it, if you are passionate about it, people will listen!
Crzyb15: Do you think the schools talk about Darfur a lot?
Dancer153: No...again it's with the modern history thing. It's mostly past stuff. Most kids don't know what's going on in their world around them. Once, almost my whole class didn't know who the Prime Minister of our country was!
Crzyb15: And if yes, what have they done to help?
Dancer153: Well, I didn't say yes, but I would like to help out any way I could. Everyone has causes that we are passionate about, if we all stick to them, maybe all these world issues can be solved! Start a movement!
Crzyb15: If no, what are some ways the school, as a community, can help?
Dancer153: We can make posters to inform the schools about what's going on in Darfur and us as the students can get a better understanding of what's going on right now.
