Paris Hilton. When you hear that name what do you think of? I'm sure many of you have watched her show, "The Simple Life," and have even read about her in the tabloids. But our obsession over such stars as Paris Hilton is beginning to really bother me.
In 2001 an estimated 2.7% of all adults living in the United States had served jail time. Why is Paris Hilton so special? She claims to have not had any special treatment during her stay in a California jail. Yet she was sentenced for a 45 day stint there, not 23 days like she ended up serving. Claustrophobia is apparently the reason why she was discharged so early. For some reason, this does not seem like a good reason for a DUI offender to be released.
I'm sure many young girls out there are big fans of hers and try as hard as they can to emulate this heiress. This bothers me even more. Of course, everyone makes mistakes, no one is perfect, even heiresses. But it seems to me that Paris is not a very good role model for anyone. The constant parties, the tapes, the drugs, the alcohol, the list goes on and on. But emulate her if you wish. No one will stop you. But do not make the same mistakes that she has made. You may end up with claustrophobia in a California jailhouse.
Paris claims to have changed during her stay in jail, but I severely doubt that. I'm sure she will turn back to her old ways. Paris is also not the only celebrity that may be looking at jail time. Lindsay Lohan is also on the road to destruction. But again, no one is perfect. Too much money too fast can be a very bad thing. Learn from the mistakes that these celebrities have made.
Rest in peace Hollywood,
