Today has been a boring summer day for me, so I decided to go on a site that I had long forgotten, Whyville. I had only the fondest memories of this site : going to the Trading Post, chatting at the Beach (back when there was only one of them), or just playing the many games Whyville had to offer.
Having been a member since September of 2004, I remember a much different Whyville.
-There were no Scions.
-WhyEat never existed.
-Only one Beach was present (the Beach that is now listed as Beach-South).
-You could not buy clams. In fact, when the first Clam Store came about, controversy broke out about whether or not this would make getting clams unfair to the "oldbies" who worked hard at Whyville's game to earn their clams.
-There was never a Whyville Street Team.
-There were only about 20 available games to make a salary with.
-Whyville hadn't even reached 1,000,000 citizens yet!
-Just going down the bus menu, I can see several links that had never been there . . . such as: *Buy Clams!, Beach- Grotto, Beach- North, Beach- Waterfall, BioPlex, Buzz Hive, Cafeteria, Climate Center, Club Scion, Girl Game Co., kajeet Chat Factory, Kinematic Attic, Nutrition Center, Newbie Center, Snowboard Mountain, Sudoku, and WhyEat.
Now, knowing that most of you reading this are fairly new to Whyville, could you imagine a Whyville without these things?
I can, and I miss it.
Going into a chatroom now makes me feel like a person lost in an unknown city. I have no clue what to do anymore and I think it may cause me to say a "farewell" to my old city, Whyville, in the near future.
As a confirmation to my feelings about the new Whyville, I interviewed a few Whyvillians, both old and new, to see how they feel about our online city.
First, I came upon buddyboy9 in the Beach-South.
Jhoroxs: How long have you been a member of Whyville?
buddyboy9: I'd say about a year and a half.
Jhoroxs: About how often would you say you go on Whyville?
buddyboy9: Ahh, like maybe 4-5 times a week, but not for long periods of time.
Jhoroxs: Do you like how Whyville has changed since you first joined?
buddyboy9: Yes, I love the new improvements such as the Scion and WhyEat programs.
Jhoroxs: Do you have any dislikes about how Whyville has changed?
buddyboy9: I don't think anything is bad, except the price of Scions could be lower.
Jhoroxs: Do you have any last thoughts?
buddyboy9: Well, I don't think so.

Next, I went spotting for another Whyvillian to interview at Club Scion.
Jhoroxs: About how long would you say you've been a member of Whyville?
scionbabe: About 122 days.
Jhoroxs: How many times a week would you say you log on to Whyville?
scionbabe: Hm. Well, lol. I log on almost every day for about two hours. But I'm on pretty much all day on the weekends. I'm pretty much addicted. x)
Jhoroxs: Do you like about how Whyville has changed since you first joined?
scionbabe: I like how there are more chat rooms. The only thing I don't like is the new welcome page.
Jhoroxs: Any last thoughts?
scionbabe: That is it for me. >:)

Last, I went hunting for another Whyvillian at the Getty Museum.
Jhoroxs: About how long have you had a Whyville account?
emolove15: Maybe a month or so.
Jhoroxs: About how often do you log into your Whyville account?
emolove15: Everyday. I spend my whole life on it! (I love it!)
Jhoroxs: Do you like how Whyville has changed since you first created your account?
emolove15: Absolutely. It keeps on getting better and better. That's a good thing.
Jhoroxs: Do you dislike any of Whyville's new changes?
emolove15: Well not really. Everything is great except for the weather.
Jhoroxs: Any last comments?
emolove15: I just want to say that they should keep on doing what they're doing!

After reviewing these interviews, I've decided that maybe change is a good thing, and I should explore the new things Whyville has to offer.
