I'm sure you're getting quite sick of my articles that mention John Lennon in them somewhere, but to prove that others still keep his music alive I had to write about this. I also had to let you all know about a way to help end the tragedy in Darfur.

A company called Amnesty International, the same people who brought you the "Make Some Noise" campaign, have done it again. They realized the power that Lennon's music still has today and decided to update it even more. Some of the world's best known performers have rerecorded Lennon's music to help raise money and awareness for the people of Darfur. More than 50 artists have come together for this project with names such as Christina Aguilera, Green Day, and Aerosmith.

And these artists did not have a hard time picking which song they wanted to do. Yoko Ono, Lennon's widow, granted rights to Lennon's entire solo songbook. Something that was almost unheard of until this occasion. Ono believed that John would be very proud to know that his music still has a purpose into today's society and that he would have worked hand in hand with the people of Darfur to end the tragedy as well. Lennon's music spoke about human rights and equality, exactly what is needed for this tragic scene.

Lennon believed that all men, and women, really were created equal and his music is the main testament to that. With songs like "Imagine" where he spoke of all of the people of the world living in peace, or "Love" where he grandly states that "love is all you need". His earlier music, such as "Come Together" a song released under The Beatles, also talks about world peace. Lennon would be excited to know that his music is being refreshed and updated for generations to come to enjoy.

If you haven't already heard, the tragedy in Darfur has been ignored for years now and it is time that someone takes a stand. This civil war has seen the death of between 200,000 and 400,000 people. Besides that over 2.5 million have been displaced from their homes and 4.5 million people are at risk of starvation, disease and other attacks in surrounding cities and countries. Let's hope that this project will create change and bring about awareness for not only the people of Darfur, but for any other place on Earth that is experiencing these sorts of tragedies.
