Music. This is one word which almost every person in the world will hear at least once in their day. What is so special about music? Well, it gives us goosebumps if a great song is played, it can make us cry, laugh, have a great time, or maybe even make us angry and annoyed, depending on what type of music it is. Unfortunately, I believe that many types of music are bashed and given a bad reputation, before someone even gets to understand the true meaning behind the songs.
Let's start off with a discussion about rap music; that lovely music that parents seem to hate, and despise, and scream at whenever they hear it playing on TV or on the radio. Is this actually music? Of course it is. It is understandable why parents may not like hearing this sort of music. It tends to be fairly offensive and repulsive towards people, especially women. But why not put the music videos and lyrics aside, and listen to the beat in the background, and the way their lyrics flow. There are few people who are able to create a sound like that, and it is fairly difficult to do. It may not appear to be music to some people, but it is, considering the talent needed to create it.
In my opinion, the one other type of music that people bash and neglect is trance and techno music. I suggest that everyone should actually listen to a full song, and pay attention to the different tones and sounds created by the DJ. I've heard some songs which have almost made me cry. The feelings released made me feel as if I was in another world, floating in mid air. Now when feelings like these arise, I believe that true music has struck me. Not many styles of music do this, but this one seems to have an impact like no other felt before.
Yes, this piece may seem quite bias, and assuming that most people think that about these types of music is wrong, but from everywhere I look or listen, people have to say at least one negative thing about the music that they don't listen to. Everyone should respect every type of music, even if they don't listen to it, and at least give it a chance. Don't attack people for the type of music they're listening too, but perhaps compare your interests with theirs, and you may even agree on liking a few of each others' songs.
My dear Whyvillian's, please keep these thoughts in mind. Be respectful, caring, and open your mind to new horizons!
Signing off,
