Author's Note: I would like to apologize for my absence from the Times these past two issues. I have been at overnight camp one week, and camping the other. I have been back for a week, but I've been concentrating on unpacking, soccer, blah blah blah. Excuses Excuses, on to the review!
"Artemis Fowl" is series of books by Eoin Colfer. The first book in the series is actually called "Artemis Fowl". It's a little under three hundred pages long. I suggest "Artemis Fowl" to those who like fantasy books.
The main characters in this book are Artemis Fowl (no duh), Holly Short, Commander Root, Butler, Juliet, and Foaly.
This book is about a boy named Artemis Fowl. His father disappeared, and he is trying to get back his fortune by stealing a fairy and holding it for ransom. This particular fairy's name is Holly Short. She is the only girl on the LEP Recon team. Her commander is Commander Root, and when she goes missing he and Foaly try to get her out of the Fowl house. Artemis' henchman, Butler, and Butler's sister, Juliet, are the only other people in the Fowl house, for the Butlers have been the servants of the Fowls for centuries. Will Holly escape the Fowl Mansion? You'll have to read the book to find out!
Eoin Colfer is a former elementary school teacher. He has written many best-sellers in Ireland, including "The Wish List" and "Benny and Omar".
USA Today says, "He can tell a story...Colfer offers some nice riffs in terms of creating a magical subworld of trolls, dwarfs and centaurs as well as some fun tech stuff." While New York Times Book Review says, "Colfer has done enormously, explosively well." Critics gave this book four and a half stars.
I would say that this book deserves a four and a half star rating. I agree completely with the critics. This isn't my favorite book, but it is definitely up there. Somewhere in the top 10. My favorite character was Mulch Diggums. I can't really explain why, but somehow he was just really funny, I guess.
Mokey6: I thought it was confusing and made no sense.
IttisMary: Oh gosh I haven't read them in like five years, so I don't remember exactly what they were about, but that they were pretty good if you like fantasy stuff (which I usually don't).
The books in the Artemis Fowl series are (in order): "Artemis Fowl", "Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident", "Artemis Fowl: The Eternity Code", "Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception," and "Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony".
In other words, this book is great for those of you who like fantasy books. This book has a four and a half star rating, from me and from book critics.
Hope you enjoyed this review. I'll catch you next time!
