Author's Note: Many of you should know for school as English assignments you must write "Letters to the Editor." The editor isn't a real person though. This is a form of creative writing, where you "pretend" there really is an Editor and you write an editorial.

Dear Editor,

It is the newest sport, the newest most incongruous sport. How can our society stoop so low? Who has the courage to say, "Stop?"

It is happening everyday. Canadians are hunting innocent seals that do not even know it is coming. How are we human if we hit innocent seals over the head with a club? This is ridiculous, and very inhumane. These sick people must be stopped immediately, because they think these murders are fun.

Every year from Nov. 15 to May. 15, the seal hunters come out to hunt. They hunt for the prized seal coat, the seals oils and the meat for the vitamins and proteins. The seal is beaten on the head with a club or hakapik until it is dead. How can a person witness the death of an animal, let alone doing the actual dirty deed, and laughing while he does it? The harp seal is the seal that is mostly hunted. As youngsters they cannot swim, or move fast. At this period of time, they are vulnerable to polar bears, and humans.

How can these people sleep at night, and not have their criminal ways dawn on them? If I were them I would cogitate my ways. They're out in the arctic, spot a seal lying on the ground, a seal who is happy to be alive, and is trying to relax. They hold their club in their moist gloves, and swing it back, and then forward. Hitting the helpless animal as it looks up in terror.

Call me apologetic, and call me a hypocrite. Here we are saying the seal murders should be stopped, when we constantly walk on the street and step on the occasional insect that crawls by. Before they crawled onto the sidewalk, they had no idea that a giant would step on them, and end their short lives in less than a second. Same with the seals. They are not used to seeing a human, but especially a human with a sharp foreign object in their hands.

The seal murderers are taking away the seals choices. We don't have people hunting us with a club, which gives us the choice. With this life we can decide whether to follow the killers, or to write a letter to the Editor and try to stop it.

The world is in our hands. Before you even think of murdering a seal, you need to realize that you could be the reason that there are no seals left on the planet. We are all hypocrites, and we say that we'll do something, when we never actually will. Please, for the sake of the seals do something. Do not just say that your going to do something. Change those words into actions.

Sincerely,
Obvibeaut.
