How many of us wonder how would it be to be an actor? Have any of you given it any thought? Yeah, it would be pretty nice. Going to premiers and getting free stuff just for coming, dressing up in expensive clothes, having fans! It's what many people dream of.
What you don't normally see is the bad side of acting and being in the limelight. Just think, every time you look out your window you see people and you get blinded by the light of the paparazzo's camera. You go outside and you can't get a moment's peace. I imagine it would get a little overwhelming.
I am a little "iffy" on what I want to be when I get older. I love acting. I love to act. Portraying another person, even just for a little while excites me. But, I'm not quite sure if I can deal with the stress of not knowing when your next pay check is going to be. That's the only problem for me. Acting is unreliable.
You could go months, years maybe without seeing a paycheck. Many actors get a part time job like being a waitress. But what if you couldn't get a job for the rest of your life? That's all you would be. A waitress.
Not to mention you have to have very strong will power. If you thought being in High School and getting offered drugs and alcohol was tough, just try when most of your friends are alcoholics and drug addicts. Many actors have been taken in by the celebrity whirlwind around these things. Lindsay Lohan, Gary Oldman, Kate Moss (though she really isn't an actor) are just a few names that come off the top of my head.
Let's say you even get an audition. Who's to say you get it? You'd be trying out against thousands of people. You'd really have to shine to get noticed. One little slip up and you might never get a callback. You have to learn how to take rejection and criticism.
So yes, if you are even in a movie and become well-known, you would get paid a lot, let's face it . . . a lot a lot. We're talking millions here. But if you don't love acting, if you're only in it for the money. It won't be worth it.
