Hey again Whyville Citizens,
It's Bncrshr14 again, here to prove another point. Every day on Whyville, I see people calling other's ugly, stupid, mean, Newbie, and a whole bunch of other names that we have been hearing since we were kids. They are words that you have known ever sense you started school. Words that you have been exposed to since you were a young child. I ask myself every day "Why can't we all just be nice to each other?" Well, this question has multiple answers. Whether you are the bully, or the victim, bullying is just plain wrong, and it needs to be stopped.
A lot of things in this world are wrong, bullying being one of them. Bullying is something that is part of every day life. Sure, it may of never happened to you, but you can't just ignore it and be completely oblivious to it. Because one day it will happen to you. Whether it's in real life, or in Whyville's virtual community, bullying is something that goes on every day. You may not even realize it. Even if you are not the bully, if you don't stand up for yourself or the victim, you are just as bad as the bullies themselves!
I was recently at a Beauty Contest when I met a really nice person who I quickly became friends with. We had a ton in common and she was really nice; to me. After the Beauty Contest was over, she said to me, "Do you want to go be mean to Newbies?". I thought to myself, if I say no, she will think I'm not cool enough. I thought for a minute, then I answered. I said, "Why?". She simply answered, "Because it's fun!"
I thought for a while, and I mailed this person and I said, "Why would you want to be mean to someone who did nothing to you?" I just didn't understand how some one could be mean to somebody completely innocent just because they look different. She answered my y-mail and said that it was her idea of having fun.
Fun? How is that fun? I wondered. This person must not have much of a life. Me, being the strong believer that I am, stood up for myself. I told this person that, that is not fun, that is just mean! Why can't we all just be nice to each other? Just because someone has different looks, taste, or personality does not give anyone the right to be mean to each other.
I know I did the right thing by not going with that person to bully Newbies. I would like to let everyone know that I am no longer friends with this person. Because someone who bullies people for fun is not a very good friend at all!
The truth is, bullies in the cyber-world bully people for a lot of different reasons. One reason for this is that person has something that they want. But the most common reason out there is people bully people because maybe when they were a Newbie, they got bullied too. They remember when they got bullied by careless, rude people, and they want the sensation of putting people down because it makes them feel good about themselves.
To all you Newbies out there, if some one tells you that your are ugly or stupid or mean, just ignore it, because deep down, you know that you are none of those things. We should all be ourselves, and not let any one tell us how to look or act. Don't give up hope, and don't put yourself down just because someone told you that you were ugly.
We should all be nice to each other, and be friends. If friendship is something that really matters to you, then you shouldn't go around hurting people. After all, it shouldn't be about looks. On Whyville, some one might me ugly, or have green hair, or look just plain weird. But on the inside they could be a smart, wonderful, sweet, amazing person who will change the world someday. Don't judge people just on looks! Like they say, "Don't judge a book by its cover". So stop the cyber-bullying, and don't call people names. Be the bigger person! We only have one chance at life, why would you want to waste it putting people down?
