Hello people of Whyville! I'm nani76! It's getting close to Halloween! Of course you know what Halloween is, tricks and free candy from others. Yeah that may be it, but have you ever read the history of Halloween? Well that's what I'm here to do. Well instead of me explaining each and every country who celebrates it, I'm just going to inform you about the United States in this article. Enjoy.

In America Halloween wasn't a holiday until the 19th century. On Halloween many celebrations are going on. Most people like to bob for apples, have costume parties and trick-or-treat, but some enjoy Halloween just to scare people and make mischief. Also people like to decorate their house to give tick-or-treaters a little scare as they go up for candy. Trick-or-treating didn't become part of Halloween until the 1950s and costumes came about in the 1930s. Many trick-or-treaters go to houses with porch lights lit.

Halloween has become the sixth most profitable holiday! We must buy a lot for Halloween! Some people use yard decorations such as tomb stones (fake of course), spiders (fake), pumpkins with faces carved into them, mummies, skeletons, vampires and much more. Companies started making yard decorations in the 1990s. Many bars hold costume contests to attract people to their bar.

The most popular costumes are pirates, vampires, ghosts, skeletons, witches, and devils or both angels and devils. Costumes are usually based on movies, and monsters.

Halloween is now our second most popular because of all the costumes, candy, and decorations.

Anoka, Minnesota, self proclaimed "Halloween Capital of the World", celebrates Halloween with a civic parade, and other city-wide events. Salem, Massachusetts, also said they were the "Halloween Capital", tries to forget about them persecuting witchcraft.

Some towns have times when you can go out for trick-or-treating. Some people in the country hold Halloween parties usually having bonfires and include some cool traditional games such as bobbing for apples, looking for candy, kind of like easter egg hunting, and snipe hunting. Just in case some of you reading this don't know what snipe hunting is, it's a game where people give new-comers silly or imaginary tasks to do, so they're basically tricking people. They also share scary stories, which include people as the scary monster waiting for the right moment in the story to jump out and scare the listeners. People always use candy usually from a bag, but some people like to make homemade stuff. Movies, scary ones of course, are viewed on Halloween nights.

So may things are always going on. Some people say Halloween is the day when the dead rise. Spooky. Oh and when you see a black cat cross your path on Halloween or just see one, don't try to hurt it. Well I hope you enjoyed my little entry about Halloween. Even though you may have already known about Halloween. Wikipedia has more information if you are interested in finding out more about Halloween.

See around. Oh don't miss out on my next article, it's about Halloween only now in Mexico.

Bye!
