I'm sure that you've seen these kinds of articles. What I'm talking about are those really annoying articles that basically slash through everything someone said in a past edition and correct everything and make the original writer feel bad. However, dubblplay shouldn't feel bad. Her article was amazing. There was a slight problem, though.
It wasn't exactly hacking that she was talking about. More like scamming. Yes, there's a difference and I know some of us don't know the correct definition. In fact, they're really easy to forget and mix up.
Scamming is was dubblplay was talking about. Buying/selling accounts, offering to makeover your face, offering to raise your salary and trading without using the Trading Post are all ways of getting scammed. Scamming is basically when someone offers to raise your salary, but instead changes your password and parental e-mail so you can't get the password back. Sometimes, they'll look through your address book and try your password on those accounts. Usually people use the same password on all their accounts, so it's a good idea to use a different password each time you create an account.
Hacking, however, is in a completely different ballpark. True, they're still trying to get into your account and steal it, but they wouldn't fool around with trying to coax the password out of you: they're too good for that. They'd rather waste hours downloading and installing hacking software on their computer so they can get into accounts and change passwords without fooling around with someone doubting them.
Can you see the difference now? Scamming and hacking are two completely different subjects, and I'm sure that if you mess it up once in an article, you'll get chewed out in the BBS's. (However, a simple mistake isn't a reason to yell at someone in the BBS's or through y-mail . . .) It really is a simple mistake to make, but hopefully this article cleared some things up.
This is bluebag, going to eat my Halloween candy.
