Philosophy. A concept many do not understand. It almost seems like philosophers aren't human. It seems that they posses a higher power at which many cannot reach. Yes, this week's article will be on Quotes from Famous Philosophers.

Now, "What is a philosopher?" some of you may be asking. A philosopher is a person who, defined by Dictionary.com, is "a person who offers views or theories on profound questions in ethics, metaphysics, logic, and other related fields." What does that mean? It means that these people are extremely smart and have the capability to think about things many people cannot. This week, we are going to review their extraordinary wisdom through quotes. Take time to ponder these quotes. Look for the true meaning they hold. Let?s see what they are.

"Anyone can become angry - that is easy, but to be angry with the right person at the right time, and for the right purpose and in the right way - that is not within everyone's power and that is not easy." - Aristotle

"Fame is like a river, that beareth up things light and swollen, and drowns things weighty and solid." - Francis Bacon

". . . Knowledge itself is power." - Francis Bacon

"A sound mind in a sound body, is a short, but full description of a happy state in this World: he that has these two, has little more to wish for; and he that wants either of them, will be little the better for anything else." - John Locke

"All the gold which is under or upon the earth is not enough to give in exchange for virtue." - Plato

"Be slow to fall into friendship; but when thou art in, continue firm and constant" - Socrates

"At the center of your being you have the answer; you know who you are . . . " - Lao Tzu

Many of my readers wonder why I don't write about the quotes or why I don't put my opinion in the article. I do this because these quotes are not for me to interpret; they are for you to have your own thoughts on. I will post mine in the BBS, and I encourage you to also. I just feel that it's not my position to interpret these quotes for you.

So this week, think about these quotes. Take one each day. During the really boring lecture in History class, think about this part of history. Think about the great wisdom from these great men which has been with us for centuries. All I ask is that you think about it.

Have a great week, and give thanks.
