I'm going to apologize in advance for how terrible my writing of this article will be today. I'm home sick and tired and I feel like throwing up . . . but I won't get into that. After saying just one thing, I'll get into the lineup of D artists!
This week I didn't get a lot of suggestions for D artists, and if I did they started with U, P, T and even A. I need to remind you to not suggest anything for a band whose name starts with a letter that I've already covered, and not to suggest anything unless it's for an upcoming article.
Dashboard Confessional: While Dashboard Confessional is known to be a band for depressed kids of the world, that's entirely false (I'm not depressed :D). They have several albums released, including The Shade of Poison Trees and Dusk and Summer.
Drop Dead, Gorgeous: Last week I said not to listen to Chiodos if you don't like "screamo" music. That would be the same for Drop Dead, Gorgeous; however, I wouldn't suggest them if they really are amazing, right? Personally, I really like "45223" from their album Worse Than A Fairytale.
Death Cab For Cutie: Since they emerged in 1997, they've had seven albums, six members and ten singles. The latest single, "I Will Follow You Into The Dark," was released in 2006 from their latest album Plans. Currently, Death Cab is working on another album, which is currently untitled, and plans to release it in spring of 2008.
The Doors: The Doors will officially be known as the first band from the 1960's that I will cover. Since it'll be entirely impossible to write down all their singles and albums without making an article within an article, I'll list the oldest and the newest. Their self-titled album, obviously called The Doors was released on January 4, 1967 and almost 11 years later, they released An American Prayer. After the release of An American Prayer, they've have tons of live albums, including Live In Boston from 2006. Although An American Prayer was released in 1978, the last single they released was "The Mosquito" in 1972.
Daughtry: Maybe you've heard "Home" from American Idol after someone was kicked off. Maybe you've heard of Daughtry as the American Idol season 5 runner up. Either way, Chris Daughtry's fame should totally be given to American Idol. The only album was self-titled and there are currently 5 singles and another planned for release in 2008. They've been nominated and won seven awards including Best Rock Album, Breakthrough Artist and Best Adult Contemporary Artist.
The Dixie Chicks: The Dixie Chicks are one of the few country artists that I can actually stand, making them, obviously, good. Emily Robison, Martie Maguire and Natalie Maines came together in 1989 to form The Dixie Chicks. You may not have heard from them until 1998, when Wide Open Spaces was released, along with the singles "I Can Love You Better" and "Wide Open Spaces". After that, they released Fly which included "Cowboy Take Me Away" and "Ready To Run" in 1999. In 2003, they released Home before announcing that they were ashamed the President came from Texas. They were shunned for a while before coming back and releasing "Not Ready To Make Nice" from their newest album, Taking The Long Way.
D12: If you have heard of them, it's either A) because Eminem is the lead singer, or B) because their song "My Band" is just a bucket of hysterics. Seriously. Just listen to it. Since, unfortunately, their PureVolume page doesn't have any music on it whatsoever, open up iTunes and buy "My Band". It'll be the best decision of today!
The Desarios: I seriously doubt that any of you have heard of them before. That's because they're a local band formed by some kids at my school! They aren't signed and they do local shows (like at The Masquerade) with bands such as Cartel. If you'd like to listen to them, check out "All's Well That Ends Well" from their PureVolume.com page.
