Ever since I was in kindergarten through second grade, I have been in primary program. Primary Program is where accelerated learners go. You do challenges that your normal class would never do. One day my Primary Program teacher mentioned a "No Electronics Week". No Electronics Week is when you can't have any use with the computer, TV, video games, any thing that's electronic. You can only use the computer for your homework.

This program inspires your creativity. For example, you find some bugs on the block, and you get a wonderful idea. You decide to create a "bug house" with rocks, sticks, grass, leafs, anything you can find. You start working on it every day of the week, and then you realize, "I haven't been using electronics lately!" You don't just have to use the No Electronics Week for this week, you could set a different goal for yourself, and make it No Electronics Month, No Electronics Year, or whatever.

The basic reason they have No Electronics Week in America is because Americans at least watch 28 hours of TV each week, and children watch at least 1,680 minutes of TV each day. They want America to be a healthy place. And they want the habits of being a couch potato to stop.

I usually set a goal for myself, like 28 hours without TV or whatever, then I usually set an award for myself (but not an award that involves the TV or electronics that you have to use). I think it helps more if you make your award something you really want, because then your tempted to get it, so your tempted even more to not use anything electronic.

Some helpful hints and directions to No Electronics Week:

1. Get in a room or a place that doesn't have any electronics in it.
2. Tell your parents to hide the remote to a place that you can't find it, and they can remember where it is.
3. Do it as a family so you know your not alone.
4. Find something your interested in such as art, cooking (you are allowed to use the microwave and oven) or collecting something.
5. You can use light, and anything that helps you cook, but nothing else.

Off to avoid electronics,
