Hey everyone! I've decided to start a new series, about different types of jobs. I just completed my career research paper and it made me curious about other jobs. There have always been a couple jobs I've been interested in but this made me realize there are so many different jobs out there that I would also love to do. For my first article I started out with the job I just researched and I want you to comment in the BBS jobs that you're interested in, and the most popular request will be in my next article.
So for my first article, I've started with the job of *dun dun dun* Psychologist. Psychologists learn about the human mind and how it works. Psychologists provide help and counseling for people who have life or emotional problems. Psychologists study human behavior and mental processes. There are three main types of psychologists; research, counseling, and applied.
Research psychologists research and study people and their behaviors. Counseling psychologists counsel people and help them with their problems. Applied psychologists use psychological theories and apply them to real life situations or problems. There is also another type of psychologist called an Industrial-organizational (or I/O) psychologist. They apply psychology to the workplace. Their job is to increase the quality of the workplace.
Psychologists need to go through college and above to get the schooling they need to be able to work in that job. There are several things you must learn and do before becoming a psychologist. You have to have a high school diploma (or GED) and a bachelor's degree. You also must have at least a master's degree in psychology. If you are going to do counseling you will have to complete an internship and pass a licensing exam.
You should also be self-motivated and have strong interpersonal skills. If you are going to do counseling you will need to earn a Ph.D. A master's degree will be what you need to be an assistant, unless you are an I/O psychologist. A bachelor's degree will also allow you to be an assistant. After or during college you will need to complete one to two years of an internship with an experienced psychologist.
The median amount of money that psychologists make in the United States is $28.58 an hour or $59,440 a year. This is the median, but depending on where you get a job, wages will vary. In some places you may earn $44,000 a year, and in another place they may earn $100,000 a year. This is because in different places there is a higher demand for psychologists than other places. Your skill level and schooling can also depend on how much you make.
