What do you think about the new Welcome Lounge? Does it help new Whyvillians or not?

Hey all! It's bonita27. First and foremost I should probably tell you this is article numero uno for me so I apologize for any mistakes in advance. :D

Okay, so we all know the latest addition for Newbie guidance is the Welcome Lounge in Why House. I've been there to check things out and even been a Tour Guide once or twice. But my experience left me wondering: Is the Welcome Lounge really helping New Whyvillians?

Upon entering, it's COMPLETE chaos. Older Whyvillians are crouched and ready to pounce on the next Newbie that comes in. I have seen many a Newbie scared off from the Welcome Lounge because roughly 10 guides whispered "tour" to them milliseconds after entering. Isn't the Welcome Lounge supposed to be doing exactly that? Welcoming new members? In my opinion, the chaotic state of the Lounge would be enough for me to shy away from Whyville if I were new.

Despite all of this it would be nice to know a little more when you started Whyville instead of having to visit the Newbie Center 4 gazillion times because you're completely clueless. Imagine having your tour guide tell you right off how to teleport or the best chat rooms. That would be quite an advantage.

I didn't want to base my whole article off my own opinions so I decided to interview some other Whyvillians. First I interviewed some Y-mail Helpers since they know best about all things "Newbie". They both had great feedback and they are sakura479 and sweeetie2.

bonita27: Do you think the Welcome Lounge hurts or helps the beginners on Whyville?
sakura479: Well, I don't think that the Welcome Lounge hurts new members, I think it is a great improvement for everyone! People who have been on awhile who need some clams and have a great personality would be perfect for the job, the new members would be more familiarized with Whyville and dedicated citizens can get a few clams in their pockets.
bonita27: What do you think about the requirements to become a Tour Guide in the Welcome Lounge?
sakura479: I think the requirements are just right to become a tour guide. Most experienced people have at least a 30 clam salary, someone who has been on Whyville for 20 days will know at least all the basics which is all that the new member will probably ask about. Also, going 30 days without punishment should make sure that the tour guide won't say inappropriate things to new members. (hopefully xP)
bonita27: What is your overall opinion of the Welcome Lounge?
Sweeetie2: I haven't heard anything back from the Newbies, good or bad. So I'm guessing everything must be fine.

Then I interview some Newbies who know firsthand about the Welcome Lounge and what it's like to get a tour and they are chevie34 and cheech27.

bonita27: Have you ever gone on a tour in the Welcome Lounge?
chevie34: Well, sort of.
bonita27: Sort of? What do you mean?
chevie34: When it first took me there, there were loads of tour guides that whispered "tour" to me. I had NO idea what to do. One person said "come over here" so I went over there and she said "say teleport beach" and then I said that. When I got there I was there by myself without a tour guide. I had no idea what was going on. So I left.
bonita27: Okay cheech27, you went for a tour in the Welcome Lounge, correct?
cheech27: Two times actually.
bonita27: Two times, really? How come?
cheech27: Well the first time I got there it was really confusing and so many guides were there, all looking for a Newbie. But, the tour guide I got disappeared right after I was assigned or whatever to her group. So I left and went back the next day. That tour guide helped a lot and showed me around all the places.
bonita27: So what is your overall opinion of the Welcome Lounge?
cheech27: I think if you get the right tour guide it's helpful. Maybe if there was a test or something to become one because that would make sure everybody gets the full "tour" experience. XD

So there you have it. All kinds of opinions about the Welcome Lounge from your fellow Whyvillians. Since it's fairly new there's not much reviews can be based off of. But it seems that the Welcome Lounge is another good addition to the Whyville community and really does help the new members that join each day. Whether you agree with that is up to you. :}

This is bonita27 signing off . . . have a marvelous day!
